[ 01 — ABOUT ]
Bits Technologies designs, builds, deploys and runs technology for businesses. One team, from the first conversation to the server it runs on. Based in Nairobi, working worldwide.
[ 02 — STORY ]
Why this exists
Most businesses do not have a technology problem. They have four spreadsheets, a WhatsApp group and one person who remembers how it all fits together. That works, right up until it does not.
The usual options are both bad. A big consultancy sells a year-long programme and a slide deck. A freelancer builds something that works and then stops answering. Neither leaves you with a system you own and understand.
We started Bits to do the thing in between: design it, build it, put it on a server, and keep it running — with the same people throughout, and with everything in your name at the end of it. The name is the idea. Small pieces, assembled deliberately, into something that holds.
[ 03 — VALUES ]
What we actually do differently
Every agency says it is honest and client-focused. These are the specific, inconvenient commitments behind that.
Say the number first
You get the price and the timeline in writing before any work starts. If scope changes, the price changes in writing before the work does. No hourly surprises.
Tell you when not to buy
A recommendation to use an off-the-shelf product, or to change the process instead of the software, is a real outcome. We have made both, and we would rather lose a project than sell the wrong one.
Hand over everything
The repository, the infrastructure accounts, the documentation — in your name from day one. There is no exit fee because there is nothing to exit.
Build boring systems
Well-supported tools, obvious structure, written-down decisions. Clever architecture is how you end up with an outage nobody can explain at 3am.
[ 04 — HOW WE WORK ]
The practical bits
- Small team, direct contact
- You talk to the people building it. No account manager relaying questions, and no handover to a delivery team you have never met.
- Working software every fortnight
- On a real URL you can open. Progress you can see beats progress reported in a status meeting.
- Written over spoken
- Decisions, scope and trade-offs go in writing. It is slower in the moment and much faster six months later when somebody asks why.
- Asynchronous by default
- One scheduled call a week, in a slot that suits you, and everything else in writing. It is what makes working across time zones honest rather than exhausting.
[ 05 — WHERE ]
Nairobi, and wherever you are
We are based in Nairobi, Kenya, and most of our delivery is asynchronous — one scheduled call a week and everything else in writing. That makes working with clients in Kenya, East Africa and beyond straightforward rather than a compromise.
For local clients we will come to you, and for infrastructure and home-lab work we often have to. We reply within one business day.
