[ 01 — CAREERS ]

That is the honest answer rather than a wall of vacancies we are not actually hiring for. If you would be a good fit, introduce yourself anyway — we read every email and we answer them.

[ 02 — WHAT WE LOOK FOR ]

The things that actually matter to us

  • People who finish things

Shipping something small that works, and then looking after it, teaches more than starting five ambitious things. We care more about what you have finished than where you studied.

  • Writing

Most of our work is asynchronous, so a clear written explanation is not a soft skill here — it is the job. If you can explain a trade-off in three paragraphs, say so.

  • Breadth, honestly declared

A small team means touching design, code, infrastructure and the client. You will not know all of it. Knowing which parts you do not know is the useful half.

  • Caring about the person using it

The measure of a system is whether the person doing the job finds it faster than what they had before. If that does not interest you, this will be a frustrating place to work.

[ 03 — HOW WE HIRE ]

Four steps, and we pay for the exercise

  1. 01

    Introduce yourself

Email us with something you have built, broken or fixed, and what you learned. A repository, a write-up or a description of a thing at work all count. A CV on its own tells us very little.

  2. 02

    A conversation

Forty-five minutes about your work and ours. Not a quiz. You should be deciding about us at the same time.

  3. 03

    A paid exercise

A small, realistic piece of work, scoped to a few hours, and we pay for your time. We do not ask anyone to work for free, and we do not use unpaid exercises as a filter.

  4. 04

    A decision, quickly

We will tell you yes or no within a week, with a reason. Silence is not an answer and we will not leave you with one.

[ 04 — PRACTICAL ]

Where and how you would work

We are based in Nairobi and work asynchronously by default: one scheduled call a week and everything else in writing. Remote within East Africa is straightforward; further afield depends on the overlap.

Interns and juniors: we take people on when we have the capacity to teach properly, not as cheap hands. If that is you, say so in your email and we will tell you honestly when that capacity next exists.

Not looking for a job but want to work together? We subcontract and collaborate too.

Send us something you made.

A repository, a write-up, a thing you fixed at work. Tell us what it was, what went wrong and what you would do differently.
